When I followed it to the north I did end up in the North Pole. Okay maybe not, but I probably would have if I had made it out of the neighborhood.

Thermometer is less precise than my nose, right in the store different copies show very different temperature. I am going to try it once and then maybe cut it off, like somebody already did.Another concern is a weak plastic shackle to hold the thing. I am afraid it will be broken in a dense bush soon.And yes, at least now it fees like a $3 piece.Though we ll see, how liquid filled compass works in the nearest trip.

Lightweight. Thermometer seems off by around 5-6 degrees, and it is hard to read in dim light, compared to similar thermometers which have a white backdrop behind the glass. I agree with others the attachment should be on the opposite side (the bottom) to clip to have it to the shoulder strap of a pack and not have to read it upside down/twist it around.

The thermometer was off by 15 degrees. I had to cut the glass tube out, remount it, and glue it back in. I used a Dremel to fit the bulb in the plastic housing. The compass is aceptably accurate within 4 degrees. For the price and the amount of work I put into it, I am very disappointed with Silva. I will try not to purchase a Silva product again. A couple of years ago I purchased a top of the line compass from Silva. I did not get a chance to take it out in the field, when I noticed a bubble.
