This buckwheat is high quality. Per others here, you have to cook it properly. I have been eating buckwheat for 30 years, and this is a fantastic product and American grown. I have bought it regularly during the last four years - never anything but fresh and perfect.

I couldn't agree more with the reviewer who said it was the worst buckwheat they've ever had. I thought it was strange that it smelled so pungent, even before opening the bag. Upon cooking, it quickly turned into mush. No other buckwheat kasha I've tried ever had this smell or this baby food-like texture. I gave it a try anyways and could not get through more than a few bites.

I'm Russian and I was in search of buckwheat that is organic. There seem to be no options for Russian-produced kasha so I went with this. The first few times when I cooked it, it turned into mush. It was terrible, I threw it away. But after some research, I understood the difference: from what I read it's the preparation technology in the two countries. The Russian version is steamed and then roasted, American is just roasted. So, instead of putting it in cold water to cook, use hot, and pour...

Revised review: the first time I made this it turned into goo. It was truly awful. I searched for other ways to cook it and landed on a recipe that worked. Bring 2 cups water to a boil. Add 1 cup buckwheat. Turn heat way down, cover, and simmer for about 8 to 10 minutes. You get individual groats and not a pile of paste.I still don’t like the flavor. It’s just too earthy. I’m accustomed to the groats from Anthony’s or similar. Milder taste. So 4 stars. It’s a good product for the money if this...

This buckwheat is very dirty and does not keep its shape. So it's not buckwheat groats, it's Kasha. And people who are looking for buckwheat groats to cook it in the usual way (1 cup of groats and 2 cups of water), should avoid this product.
