I've always used wide Stanley tape measures in the past, but now I have two that have seen better days. One changes the measurement by 1/4" when locked, & the other slips through the brake. Both broke at the 7' mark, causing me to start measurements all over again. These last me about 6 months to a year in a commercial electrical construction environment, which is about all I can really ask for considering how often I get it snagged or drop it off a ladder. The place they break is always within the first couple of feet a tear starts but it takes a lot of wear and tear for this to occur.
