No guesswork, and only a few buttons.I plugged it in, filled it with a couple of quarts of water, selected "small cubes" and in about 8 minutes the first batch was delivered, and every 8 minutes after that until the bin was full and "ice full" lit up on the control panel. Pros: It's not loud- it's fast - easy to use - very munchable ice.Cons: ice transferred to a freezer turns into a hard clump due to ice being wet still. Ice melts in drinks rapidly, this waters down the drink instead of making it as cold as it could.

I bought this because our refrigerator ice maker cannot keep up with our needs. If I am around the house one or two days a week I spend some time making ice and store it in the freezer to supplement. This makes a bin of ice relatively quickly, however, there is no freezer component to this ice maker so it melts as it fills up.
