If you sit on the couch and pay bills like I do, I needed a device that scans the bills and places them in a folder so I can toss the originals. The Brother DS700D is the deal. Everybody knows they should keep their bills after you have paid them so that you can prove you did pay them. But many times we get lazy and toss them in a pile in a drawer or just toss them in the trash. Worked great before the update. With Mavericks the light won't even turn on. Mavericks has been out for months now, and was announced several months before that, and there's still no driver. Fortunately, I run Windows XP in Parallels, so it's not completely useless. In fact, that's the only thing I use Parallels for. I ended up returning this scanner. It was impossible for me to get a straight scan, and I found it continually missed getting an accurate, readable scan of information at the very top of the page. I loved the size and the portability, but that wasn't enough for me to feel like it got the job done.

I bought this scanner because I like Brother products. I have a number of label makers and they are all high quality. This is also high quality and it scanned to pdf instantly. It doesn't take up alot of desk space. However, it has one flaw in that it is slow to scan. 6 seconds seconds/page. I guess I am used to my ScanSnap which just zooms along. at 1-2 seconds per page. So, I can't really complain since that is clear in the product description but I wish it was faster.

From a hardware viewpoint, this scanner deserves 5 stars.
